Wellington Phoenix
The Nix
Wellington Phoenix FC is a professional football club based in Wellington, New Zealand, and the only New Zealand club to have competed continuously in the A-League Men since joining in 2007. The club plays its home matches at Sky Stadium, a multi-purpose venue with a capacity of 34,500, where the fan zone known as The Yellow Fever creates one of the most distinctive atmospheres in the league. Wellington Phoenix has yet to win the A-League Championship or Premiership but has reached the playoffs on multiple occasions, including a memorable run to the preliminary final. The 2025-26 squad features Paulo Retre, an experienced defensive midfielder, and the high-profile return of attacking midfielder Sarpreet Singh, a former Bayern Munich player who came back to Wellington after seven years in Europe. Nigerian forward Ifeanyi Eze and New Zealand international Tim Payne add further quality. The club also signed All Whites defender Bill Tuiloma and Norwegian midfielder Sander Svindal Larsen during the mid-season transfer window. Wellington Phoenix benefits from strong local support and the geographical advantage of its isolated island location, which makes away trips challenging for visiting teams.
