Union Berlin

FC Union Berlin, founded in 1966, is a club with one of the most remarkable stories in German football. Based in the Köpenick district of Berlin, Union plays at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, a stadium literally built by the club's fans through volunteer labor. The club was historically the "other" team in East Berlin, overshadowed by state-supported BFC Dynamo, which gave Union a rebellious, working-class identity that endures today. After decades in lower divisions, Union rose to the Bundesliga in 2019 and quickly established itself, even qualifying for the Champions League in 2023. The club is known for its unique fan culture, including the annual "Weihnachtssingen" Christmas carol event that draws tens of thousands.
