Real Oviedo

Real Oviedo, founded on March 26, 1926, is a professional football club based in Oviedo, Asturias, Spain. The club plays its home matches at the Estadio Carlos Tartiere, named after the club's first president, with a capacity of 30,500 spectators. Real Oviedo was a founding member of La Liga in 1929, participating in the inaugural season of Spain's top-flight competition. The club spent 38 seasons in La Liga, with its most successful period occurring in the 1990s when the team consistently maintained top-flight status under coaches like Javier Irureta. Notable players who have worn the blue jersey include Juan Mata, Michu, and Santi Cazorla, all of whom graduated from Oviedo's youth academy before achieving international recognition. After severe financial difficulties in the 2000s that led to relegation to the Segunda Division B and even the Tercera Division, the club has been steadily rebuilding. A significant moment came in 2012 when a global crowdfunding campaign involving former academy graduates and fans helped save the club from dissolution. Real Oviedo returned to Segunda Division and has been pushing for a return to La Liga.
