Newcastle Jets FC is a professional football club based in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. Founded in 2000 as one of the inaugural clubs of the A-League, the Jets play their home matches at McDonald Jones Stadium, which has a capacity of 30,000. The club's greatest achievement came in the 2007-08 season when it won the A-League Championship, defeating the Central Coast Mariners 1-0 in the Grand Final thanks to a memorable strike from Mark Bridge. Despite being one of the smaller-market clubs in the league, Newcastle Jets has maintained a fiercely loyal fanbase and a commitment to developing young Australian talent. Under coach Rob Stanton, the Jets fielded the youngest starting XIs in the league during the 2024-25 season. The 2025-26 season saw the blockbuster signing of Italian superstar Mario Balotelli, arguably the most high-profile player ever to feature in the A-League. The club also signed Matildas legend Emily van Egmond, alongside emerging talents like Lachlan Rose and Xavier Bertoncello. The F3 Derby against the Central Coast Mariners remains one of Australian football's most intense regional rivalries.
