Girona FC, founded in 1930, is a professional football club based in Girona, Catalonia, Spain. The club plays its home matches at the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi, a modernized 14,624-seat stadium. After decades in the lower divisions of Spanish football, Girona experienced a transformative period following its acquisition by the City Football Group in 2017, becoming part of the same ownership structure as Manchester City. Girona first reached La Liga in the 2017-18 season and after a brief return to Segunda Division, the club re-established itself in the top flight. The 2023-24 season was historic for Girona, as under manager Michel, the team finished third in La Liga and qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club's history, playing an attacking and attractive brand of football that earned widespread acclaim. Key figures in that campaign included Artem Dovbyk, who won the Pichichi Trophy as La Liga's top scorer with 24 goals, and Aleix Garcia in midfield. The club's red and white striped kit is a symbol of Catalan sporting identity.
